What are hackerspaces?

Typical hackerspace activities include:

  • social activities including games and parties
  • learning and sharing knowledge
  • presentations and lectures

Hackerspaces have been around for some time and are starting to gain traction all over the world. The principal idea is essentially the same for all hackerspaces. They are a place where people of all backgrounds can hang out, work on projects, socialize, and network. However, each hackerspace is unique and it's up to its members to determine how the space will be managed and what types of projects the group will work on as a team. For example electronics and software are my stronger skills but I am also interested in bio-technology and mechanics. You may be interested in something that I never even thought of or you may have individual projects that you want to work on. By dreaming big and using the knowledge of the entire group and other groups we can make big things happen.
